“봄! 봄! 봄이 왔어요!” Flowers are blooming across Korea, and the season has overcome Jakarta, too. Actually, it’s not a common season along the equator, but a fun Korean Day was held at the Korean Cultural Center in Indonesia (KCC). Last Friday, March 29, 2018, the KCC showed Indonesians a bit more about the spring. Two days before the event, we had to register at the official website to get a free pass because there was a limit on the number of people. Around 84 people gathered in the KCC’s multifunctional hall.

Participants had to dress according to a dress code chosen by the KCC. The colors were pink, yellow, white, green or a floral design. It made for a blooming atmosphere. From Korea to Indonesia, we introduced various kinds of flowers and spring festivals by watching a video. Many different flower festivals will be happening around Korea. To name a few, there's the Seokchon Lake Flower Festival, the Seoul Grand Park Cherry Blossom Festival and the Seoul Land Cherry Blossom Festival. They will take place starting in the first week of April. The Yeouido Spring Flower Festival, which is the biggest, most well-known festival of them all, will take place around mid-April. Every spring, millions gather at this particular festival to view the beauty of the cherry blossoms, azaleas, forsythias and dandelions all in one place.

Participants were also taking part in fun quizzes and exciting games, but there was one group of games that really impressed me. We were divided into 10 or 11 people per group. Then we had to make a picture of a random Korean historic building, such as Gyeongbokgung Palace, Gwanghwamun Gate or Seoul Station. After that, each group got the opportunity to present their work of art to the other groups.

The enthusiasm of the participants never ended. The KCC was very generous to provide photo booths with a spring theme. Some stuff, like ornamental flowers and balloons, decorated the booths. A lot of people came to take memorable photos. The KCC also gave out some gifts for the best photo if participants uploaded their photo to their social media profile and tagged the KCC.

The event ended with a photo together, and the KCC treated all the participants to some delicious Korean snacks, such as watermelon slices, seafood and green onion savory pancakes, rice rolls, colored rice cake and even some kimchi.

I've learned a lot about the Korean spring and had a great time and experience at the event. I look forward to seeing some cherry blossoms when I go to Korea next time.
